What does the CARE & FAIR® stamp mean?
If you have been wondering about the conditions in which the handmade models that we sell in our online shop were made, then you will certainly have come across the CARE & FAIR® stamp already. This stamp certifies that customers can be certain that their new home accessory was made under fair conditions for the workers in the countries of origin. We are always looking to provide you with a wide selection of modern rugs, which is why we obtain our rugs from all over the world. Unfortunately, children are still being used illegally in factories and workers have to endure poor conditions at their place of work in manufacturing countries such as India, Pakistan or Nepal.
The organisation behind the stamp
The “CARE & FAIR® – Teppichhandel gegen Kinderarbeit” organisation has set itself the task of abolishing child labour in the manufacturing countries by eliminating social inequalities and generally improving the education situation. Back in 1994, several rug importers joined forces and formed the CARE & FAIR® relief campaign. Today, the organisation is proud to have around 320 members worldwide including producers in Europe, North and South America as well as Asia. With other 30 humanitarian projects in Pakistan, Nepal and India, its reach is considerable.
Requirements for orders
The organisation works especially hard to make producers and suppliers in the countries of origin aware that sales of handmade rugs in Central Europe will stagnate unless they take serious measures to combat illegal child labour. The demands from CARE & FAIR® include a number of conditions. For example, producers or suppliers must pledge not to supply any rugs that were produced using illegal child labour, or to allow the children of carpet weavers to attend school. If these purchasing conditions are not complied with, the buyers are entitled to cancel the sales contract immediately and to refuse additional deliveries from these sellers. For you as an end customer, the organisation’s support guarantees that you can enjoy your newly acquired product whilst making the world that little bit better.
